Gerade rechtzeitig zum 85. Geburtstag von Mikis Theodorakis (geboren am 29. Juli 1925) wurde die Produktion eines der wohl spektakulärsten Theodorakis-Album-Projekte der letzten Jahre zum Abschluss gebracht. Der Hamburger House-Musiker Francesco Diaz, einer der Vorreiter und Formgeber des Ibiza-Sounds, der auch als DJ und nach zahlreichen Compilations im Ruf eines Housegourmets steht, hat zwölf Theodorakis-Songs bearbeitet, mit herausragenden Musikern neu eingespielt und in tiefer Verehrung des charismatischen Griechen produziert. Dabei wurde Klangmaterial der Stimmen von Mikis Theodorakis, Karl Frierson, Kaliopi Vetta und Petros Pandis verwendet und mit freshen Sounds im Acid Jazz, Deep House und Funk-Gewand kombiniert. „Zeitenverrückt“ – so könnte man es nennen, was bei dieser gemeinsamen Theodorakis- und Diaz-Unternehmung herausgekommen ist. Über die gewaltige Zeitspanne eines halben Jahrhunderts führt nun eine Brücke, die von von Athen über Hamburg bis nach Ibiza trägt und die unvergessliche Theodorakis-Melodien in die Moderne führt. So wird Anfang des 21. Jahrhunderts endlich das umgesetzt, was Theodorakis schon im 20. Jahrhundert meisterhaft verstand: die Menschen durch Musik zu sich selbst kommen zu lassen, auf den Zorbas-Dancefloors, in den hippen Chillout Lounges und Clubrooms des neuzeitlichen Europas und über den Wolken der in antiker Tradition verwurzelten mediterranen Welt. Erstaunlicherweise ist hier das gelungen, was in beinahe allen Bereichen unserer heutigen Lebenswelt immer wieder gepredigt wird, nämlich dass die Welt sich kontinuierlich neu erfinden müsse. Und so empfindet auch der Altmeister selbst: „Dass Musik den Menschen schöner macht, daran wagt man noch einmal zu glauben, wenn man die Titel dieses Albums hört, die aufeinander folgen wie zwölf Monate, von denen jeder einzelne auf seine Weise überrascht!“ Nennen wir also das Album über zwölf lange Atemzüge getrost THEODORDIAZ WORLD und schalten auf Repeat, um uns in eine Tiefe zu begeben, in der keine Uhr länger wasserdicht bleiben kann. Just in time for the 85th birthday of Mikis Theodorakis (born on 29th July 1925), the production of one of the most spectacular Theodorakis album projects of the last years has been accomplished. Hamburg-based house musician Francesco Diaz, one of the pioneering and defining artists of the Ibiza sound, a man who due to his DJ-style and countless compilations has been labeled as house gourmet, has put his hands on 12 Theodorakis songs, summoned some truly outstanding musicians into his studio and produced new versions of the legendary material. Interweaving the voices of Mikis Theodorakis, Karl Frierson, Kaliopi Vetta and Petros Pandis with fresh sounds ranging from acid jazz to deep house with a soulful and sometimes funky vibe, his deep-felt love for the charismatic Greek shines through in every second of his diligent production. „Time shift“ – could be the label of this unique Theodorakis and Diaz cooperation resulting in some fine bridgework which now leads from Athens via Hamburg to Ibiza, covering the time span of half of a centrury and carrying Theodorakis’ unforgettable melodies from the past into the future. A tremendous effort in the spirit of this legendary musician who loved to bring music to the people to make them have a better understand of their own kind. From the Zorbas dancefloors to stylish chill-out lounges and clubs of contemporary Europe, and high up in the sky above a Mediterranean world which is deeply rooted in antique traditions, this music will unite people of all origins. The album practices what is preached in almost all realms of the world we live in today, that to justify your existence you have to continually reinvent yourself. Theodorakis himself puts it this way: „You will once more dare to believe that music makes man more beautiful when you listen to these album tracks which follow one another as the 12 months of a year, each one surprising in its very own way.“ At the end of the day you will be more than willing to submerge in this THEODORDIAZ WORLD and press repeat to sink deeper down than any submarine may carry you.
